Chief Mitchell is a highly respected organizational leader. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Management from Nova Southeastern University and currently working on his Master’s Degree. He holds his Chief Fire Officer Designation and Chief Emergency Medical Services Officer Designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, and his Florida Professional Emergency Managers Designation through the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association. Chief Mitchell was awarded his Professional Engineer Designation by the Society of Professional Engineers, UK. Certified as State Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector, Paramedic and Emergency Manager, he has gained invaluable experience since he began his career in public safety in 1980.
Additionally, Chief Mitchell currently serves as a representative and in leadership roles for multiple local, regional, state and national agencies, incident management teams, review teams and various boards. He has been deployed for multiple disasters since 1998 and was a part of the 9/11 Incident Management Team working from the National Emergency Training Center.
Chief Mitchell is a highly regarded subject-matter expert on the Incident Command System, and is a national and international motivational speaker on numerous public safety topics (Leadership, Emergency Management, Emerging Technology, NIMS, ICS). He works with the Boy Scouts of America, and numerous other volunteer organizations, giving back to the community. He has been a guest writer for the Every One Goes Home newsletter and the International Public Safety Association.
Chief Mitchell has extensive experience in ICS, Disaster Assistance, Leadership Development and Executive Coaching. He feels that mentoring the future generations of public safety personnel is a privilege and responsibility.
